Zoo Director Svetlana Sokolova has been a permanent member of the jury of the International Award "My affectionate and necessary Animal" since the very beginning of the project. This year, the Zoo has become an official partner of the Award!
Kaliningrad Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the country, along with Moscow and Leningrad. It was founded in 1896, and the zoo will celebrate its 130th anniversary in 2026. Currently, there are about 300 species of animals in the zoo's collection, of which more than 200 are included in the International Red Book.
The zoo actively participates in programs for the conservation of rare animal species: orangutans, giant anteaters, Japanese crane, black vultures, bald vultures, Amur leopard.
This year, the zoo broke its own attendance record: 700,000 visitors were welcomed here in October. The last time such a number of visits was registered was 43 years ago in 1982.
Now the Kaliningrad Zoo is one of the most popular tourist destinations, along with the federal National Park Curonian Spit, the Museum of the World Ocean and all its branches.
