A sheepdog from the Krasnoyarsk Territory found a missing woman in the taiga

The nomination "Our Brothers": A service dog named Roxy and her partner spent almost 14 hours searching for a "lost girl" in the forest.

The story told by KP-Krasnoyarsk took place in the summer of 2025 in the Minusinsky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, which borders Khakassia. At the end of the working week, the police received a message from a resident of Abakan, who was vacationing with her friend on the shore of Lake Tagarskoye. According to her, the 84-year-old woman went for a walk in the forest in the afternoon, but did not return in the evening. That's when the campers sounded the alarm.

The famous salt lake is located almost forty kilometers from the capital of Khakassia, but geographically belongs to the Krasnodar Territory.  Therefore, it was the Krasnoyarsk police who came to the rescue. When it became clear that the search was dragging on, our heroes, junior inspector and dog handler Ruslan Chugin and his four-legged partner Roxy, joined them. They started searching for the missing pensioner early the next morning after the disappearance of the day.

"The difficulty of the search was that there were a lot of vacationers near the place where the woman disappeared, therefore, there were a lot of different smells, and it was not easy for Roxy to pick up the trail. But the service dog is characterized by its ability to work and perseverance, and it has picked up the trail," the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Krasnoyarsk Territory said.

The tracks were constantly looping, and in such a way that the police officers returned to the same place several times. But Roxy and her partner didn't give up. As a result, the search for the missing woman lasted 14 hours.

"During a search of an area in a woodland, a service dog smelled the scent of a woman, picked up a trail and led a police officer to a lost 84-year-old pensioner. As it turned out, a resident of Abakan first got lost, and then lay down to rest. After making sure that the woman was feeling well and did not need medical attention, the police officer, along with his four-legged partner, helped her get to the city," the press service said.

Roxy is a German shepherd. She has been living with Ruslan Chugin for the third year now. Police officers, especially dog handlers, are very fond of their four-legged colleague. They say that Roxy is very affectionate and kind in her professional activities. In his spare time, the shepherd's favorite activity is to walk and play with his master Ruslan Chugin and his son. And the main encouragement for her for several years has been watermelon, Roxy's favorite delicacy.
