Nomination "Responsible for those...": Guys from the KOSHKISPAS volunteer Animal Rescue Service came to the rescue of the poor guy.
For almost a week, the tail was in the hole of the granite lining of the embankment in the historical center of St. Petersburg, RIA Novosti writes. How he got there, the story is silent, perhaps he fell through a small hole or jumped into the water. But the cat had no chance to get out of the granite captivity on its own. Above and below - stone, surrounded by water.
The cat was noticed by accident. In the hole of the lining of the Fontanka River embankment, at the place where the rivers divide into the Griboyedov Canal and Fontanka itself, people caught a glimpse of a black and white muzzle. And they informed the famous St. Petersburg "KOSHKISPAS". Then those who do this every day joined the rescue operation.
"The cat was sitting behind the granite lining of the embankment in a pile of stones, which represent the body of the embankment. He was sitting at a depth of four meters, and even moving through the cracks between the boulders. And we only had a noose with us. Once we managed to put a noose on the cat's head, but as soon as he felt the movement of the noose, he pulled his head out and ran away," said Tatiana Skorodumova, head of the KOSHKISPAS animal rescue service.
Therefore, on the first day, or rather the night, the rescue of the tail had to be stopped. And so it went on for several days. They tried to pull the cat out of its stone casemates, but it got scared and hid. But he ate well. After all, the rescuers lured him with food and goodies.
The situation was complicated by the river itself. The water was rising and the possible exit was simply flooded, the cat was already trying to be pulled out underwater, rescuers were working in wetsuits, but everything was in vain. On July 30, the water subsided, and the rescuers plunged back into the Fountain.
"Two attempts to put the cat in a noose and both times it breaks free. The cat ate the food with great appetite. At least he ate. In the evening, they began to mount a cat trap. But the passage of tourist boats has begun. Waves from powerful engines washed away the food and overwhelmed the exit of the cat, driving it into the depths of the embankment. Only one captain passed the work site by inertia. One out of a hundred," Tatiana continues her story.
The St. Petersburg Transport Committee has allocated a patrol boat to help rescuers get close to the animal without creating strong waves on the river. Mostotrest provided the information the rescuers needed. But the water in the river, meanwhile, was rising again. That did not give the volunteers any chance to carry out the rescue operation successfully.
And so, on August 3, 10 people came to the Fontanka Embankment with the firm intention of rescuing the poor guy. From the land, people watched everything that was happening through a camera that transmitted an image from the ill-fated hole.
"We came to the hole on the boot. Another call sign for the cat... And oops! There is a response! A plaintive meow came in response. He is awake! A cage trap was mounted and placed on the wall. In general, the cat was visible from the sap, but it did not move or jump off its ledge at all calls. We realized that he was afraid of the water, which flooded the board by a couple of centimeters before coming out of the gap. I had to lay laminate and linoleum flooring quickly," says Tatiana Skorodumova.
And after a few minutes of waiting, the cat finally jumped into the cage and a deafening "HOORAY!" resounded along the embankment. Well, the happy cat went to the vet clinic for an examination and treatment of the foot, and then for overexposure, where he will have to look for a new home.
The KOSHKISPAS Animal Rescue Service is a division of the EXTREMUM search and rescue squad in St. Petersburg (a public organization of volunteer rescuers and volunteers). It rescues animals in situations where high-altitude, complex technical and other rescue operations are required.
